Römische Zwiebelknopffibel
kaiserzeitl., 4.- 5.Jhd. n.Chr., Länge 90 mm. Hohe: ca. 26 mm, Bronze.
Zwiebelknopffibel mit Röhrenscharnier und dickem Querarm. Der im Querschnitt trapezförmige Bügel verläuft in einem halbkreisförmigen Bogen zum langen röhrenförmigen Fuß mit Nadelhalter. Auf dem teilweise facettierten Fuß findet sich eine Verzierung aus zwei mal zwei Kreisaugenpaaren. Auf den Außenseiten des Querarms sowie am Kopf jeweils ein kugeliger, zwiebelförmiger Abschluss.

An rare genuine example of a late Roman 4th Century cross-bow fibula.
The fibula designed as a cross bow is a rare example of late Roman brooches in this style. With similar fibulas on display in the British Museum this piece makes a lovely example to treasure as part of a personal Antiquities Collection.
It is no longer wearable as a brooch as the fibula is bent. The pin itself moves and has good tension but due to the curve in the fibula it no longer comes out of the clasp to allow it to be used as a brooch.
It could be worn as a pendant with a piece of leather tied around it and would present beautifully as an ancient art object worn this way. Examined with a microscope there is lazurite on the bronze in places a result of extended burial.
