Jean Miotte was a French painter known for his lyrical abstract work which channeled introspective thought and athletic movements. Miotte was a part of the Art Informel movement and compared his working style to that of jazz musicians or ballet dancers in its use of free-flowing movements within a structured practice. Born on September 8th, 1926 in Paris, France, the artist studied under Achille-Émile Othon Friesz and Ossip Zadkine in the Montparnasse neighborhood of Paris. He later traveled to New York in 1961 where he met Modern painters Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell...
Critics have said he is unique among the Informels because he continues to grow, fighting repetition, questioning himself and his form of expression...
In 1980, Jean Miotte exhibited fifty works in Beijing at the French cultural centre. He was the first western painter to be invited to exhibit his work in Beijing after Maos death. ...
Today, much of his work is held at the Miotte Foundation, a part of the Chelsea Art Museum in New York, as well as in the collections of the Musée dArt Moderne in Paris, the National Museum of Singapore, the Contemporary Art Museum in Dunkirk, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, among others. Miotte lived between Paris, New York and Fribourg, Switzerland over the last decades of his life. He died on March 1, 2016, in New York.

LOTUS painting - Chang Chieh Winter Lotus
Chang Chieh (1921 - 2016) was a celebrated Taiwan artist recognised for his lotus flowers, brilliant colours and carefully composed artworks. Born in 1921 in Shanghai, he graduated from the Chengtse Art College, Danyang in Jiangsu Province in 1948. He immigrated to Taipei in 1949
His work has been compared to the Five Dynasties painter Xu Xi and the Qing painter Gao Yun, both known for introducing revolutionary techniques in flower painting, and for establishing it as a genre. He once said in an interview about his exhibition organised by Alisan Fine Arts that "Lotus represents me - I am a lotus after all".

1970s :
Much early work reflected an interest in the gap between two and three dimensions as experienced through life drawing and the use of relief, while classically inspired figurative references, relating to the idealisation of the body, explored the gap between fantasy and reality.
Christie Browns figurative practice is informed by an interest in our relationship with objects and the significance and relevance of museum collections and archaic artefacts to contemporary art. Archaeology presents a fragmented narrative of past lives and holds parallels with the practice of psychoanalysis where layers are carefully stripped away to reveal hidden information. Her work references these archaic traces as well as the mythology, narrative and symbolism associated with clay and its relationship with other materials such as wax, bronze and plaster. She often presents her work through site or theme-specificity and her making method of press-moulding allows her to explore the nature of repetition though installation and series....as a member of the CRC-UK. She has exhibited her ceramic sculpture widely in the UK and abroad and frequently lectured about her practice at international residencies and conferences. Her work is featured in several private and public collections in Europe and the USA, including the Victoria and Albert Museum UK and the Mint Museum USA. She is represented by Messums Gallery, London and Wiltshire.
